Mass Spectrometry Core Laboratory

The Mass Spectrometry Core Laboratory is directed Dr. Thomas. The laboratory is located on the third floor of the Richard H. Dean Biomedical Research Building located in the Piedmont Triad Research Park in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The laboratory assists investigators at Wake Forest University in the characterization of lipids, proteins, and other biological molecules. The facility provides access to technical proficiency and instrumentation for moderate fee-for-service costs. New protocols and instrumental methods are developed and implemented for use by scientists and students. More information contact Dr. Thomas and visit the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory Detailed description of facilities.

The Protein Analysis Core Laboratory is directed by Dr. Lively. The laboratory is now located in the Wake Forest Biotech Place in downtown Winston-Salem.

Protein Analysis Core Laboratory

The Protein Analysis Core Lab (PACL) provides the following services for proteomics and protein characterization:

  1. Protein identification using mass spectrometry.
  2. High performance liquid chromatography of peptides, proteins, and other biological molecules.
  3. Quantitative amino acid analysis.
  4. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry of proteins and peptides.
  5. N-terminal protein sequencing by Edman degradation.
  6. One and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis of proteins.
  7. Laboratory and logistical support for clinical studies.
  8. Bioinformatics analysis of DNA, proteins, and peptides.

DNA Sequencing Core Laboratory - CLOSED 1 June 2012

After 16 years of providing DNA Sequencing and Genotyping services to the Wake Forest research community, the DNA Sequencing Lab of the Comprehensive Cancer Center is closing. A combination of decreased demand for Sanger sequencing, competition from commercial companies, and decreasing institutional support for core labs have made it financially difficult for us to continue providing this service.
Wake Forest Investigators may choose from many commercial DNA sequencing companies that are now available. There are two companies with laboratories in Research Triangle Park. Genewiz, has a sample drop box in the Cancer Center Cell and Viral Vector Core Laboratory on the Hawthorne Campus in the Gray Building, Room 2063. For more information, please contact Terry Bennett at 716-4280. Eton Bioscience, Inc. also has a lab in RTP. We suggest that you contact the companies directly to obtain more information about setting up an account and submitting samples for analysis. Please contact us if you have any further questions about sequencing alternatives. Elyse Jung will still be available to provide technical advice for your DNA sequencing projects.
Genewiz, Research Triangle Park, NC (http://genewiz.com). There is a sample dropbox located in the Cancer Center Cell & Viral Vector Core Laboratory (http://infinet.wfubmc.edu/depts/cvvcl/) in which you may leave your samples for daily delivery to Genewiz.
Eton Bioscience Inc., Research Triangle Park, NC (http://www.etonbio.com/).

Oligonucleotide Synthesis Core Laboratory – CLOSED 1 June 2012

NOTICE: After more than 20 years of service to the Wake Forest research community, oligonucleotide synthesis services have been discontinued. There are now many highly capable commercial oligonucleotide synthesis services available that provide products rapidly and at very competitive prices.
